This iconic sandstone mansion, set high above Mosman Bay, had long been in need of restoration and care. Spanning three levels, the home originally included a nanny’s apartment positioned above and a garage at street level.
The intention was to restore what mattered, while reshaping the home to support a more considered way of living.
The direction for the project was grounded in balance — retaining the mansion’s original character while introducing a greater sense of warmth, comfort, and usability.
Over two years, the project unfolded in close collaboration with architects, heritage consultants, and skilled trades. Each element was approached with care, restoring where possible and refining where needed.
The result honours the building’s history while supporting a more contemporary way of living — one that feels resolved, generous, and deeply connected to its setting.

“Truly a labour of love for this incredible home dating back to the late 1800s. Some unsympathetic renovations and years of neglect had left it in a sad state. Thankfully, my clients could see its potential and entrusted us to bring this old beauty back to life.

A lift was introduced to connect the garage to the main entry level. Requiring extensive excavation, a tunnel was carved through sandstone to allow for level access and a more natural arrival into the home.
One of the primary challenges was resolving movement through the home. Its tiered structure made access complex and impractical.

A central hallway, with 15-foot ceilings, opened toward uninterrupted views across Mosman Bay.
This became a defining moment within the home, guiding much of the design approach. Our focus was to draw attention to this natural axis, allowing light and outlook to carry through.
