‘A newly renovated family home that was just a bit too minimalist for our clients liking. A re-work to the entry, living and dining, new furniture and finishing touches have made a big impact
‘Sometimes it is the things we think are an issue with a home that turn out to be our most favourite feature with a bit of thought and some clever additions to complement what is already there’
– Jodie Carter
I love the challenge of working with existing architecture in a home and transforming the space around it to improve and embrace what may have been considered a problem to clients. In this case we had a huge round skylight in the middle of the dining room. Whilst it was fabulous for natural light during the day, it was an issue at night to see what you were eating. Rather than just adding extra downlights we sourced this amazing rope light that was able to be strung around the skylight so you had the best of both worlds. A beautiful and unexpected feature and functionality.
Another small issue with this home was opening the front door and stepping straight into the dining and living rooms. There was no sense of arrival, or the that pause point before the rest of the home is seen. Adding the bespoke slatted screen in dark timber was one of the starting points for the design and the rest of our cabinetry and ideas flowed on from there.
